Former Browns Quarterback Signs With 49ers
Just a few weeks before the start of the 2023-24 season, the Cleveland Browns traded Joshua Dobbs to the Arizona Cardinals for a 2024 5th-round pick.
That trade in August gave Dobbs the opportunity to start for the Cardinals while Kyler Murray was recovering from a torn ACL.
In his eight games played with Arizona, Dobbs threw for 1,569 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Arizona went 1-7 over that stretch and ended up trading Dobbs to Minnesota right before the mid-season deadline.

Dobbs then played five games for the Vikings, filling in for the injured Kirk Cousins. In that time he threw for 895 yards, five touchdowns and five interceptions before being benched in favor of Nick Mullens.
Since entering the league in 2017, the quarterback has spent time with seven teams including the Steelers, Jaguars, Browns, Lions, Titans, Cardinals and Vikings.
Dobbs can now add the 49ers to that list after agreeing to a one-year, fully guaranteed $2.25 million deal that includes another $750k in incentives according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Dobbs took to social media shortly after the news was announced Monday evening.
The signing of Dobbs makes plenty of sense for San Francisco as Sam Darnold moved on with the Minnesota Vikings last week, leaving an opening behind Brock Purdy in the Niners QB room.
Unless the 49ers make any other moves at quarterback this offseason, Dobbs will be the one called into action if Brock Purdy goes down at any point during the 2024-25 season.
