WWE Founder Vince McMahon Resigns Amid Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Vince McMahon officially resigned as executive chairman of TKO, the parent company of WWE, on Friday amid allegations of sexual assault, trafficking and physical abuse.

Former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit Thursday in which she said McMahon sexually abused her and directed her to have sex with other executives and a wrestling star during her time at the company from 2019 to ‘22. 

McMahon denied the allegations but did announce he was resigning in a statement released Friday evening.

“Out of respect for the WWE Universe, the extraordinary TKO business and its board members and shareholders, partners and constituents, and all of the employees and Superstars who helped make WWE into the global leader it is today, I have decided to resign from my executive chairmanship and the TKO board of directors, effectively immediately,” McMahon said in a statement.

WWE president Nick Khan announced via an email to staff that McMahon resigned from his position as TKO Group Holdings executive chairman.

“He will no longer have a role with TKO Group Holdings or WWE,” Khan wrote.

McMahon previously resigned as CEO and chairman of WWE in July 2022 due to sexual misconduct allegations, but returned to the board six months later.
