Concacaf Releases 2023 Gold Cup Schedule, Venues
The U.S. men’s national team’s Gold Cup title defense will begin June 24 at Chicago’s Solder Field and, if successful, take it from one coast of the country to the other.
For the first time, Concacaf will offer its reigning champion the chance to own the spotlight. Whereas previous Gold Cups typically started with doubleheaders, the 17th edition of the tournament will kick off with a single match between the U.S. and Jamaica, the Americans’ stiffest group-stage competition. Although it won’t be a 2026 World Cup host, Soldier Field has been a frequent Gold Cup venue and was the site of the final in 2007, 2013 and 2019.
The Americans’ Group A slate will continue with a June 28 game at St. Louis City’s new CityPark against the survivor of a qualifying playoff featuring Curaçao, St. Kitts & Nevis, French Guiana and Sint Maarten. The first round will conclude on July 2 at Charlotte’s Bank of America Stadium against Nicaragua.
The U.S. has never failed to make the Gold Cup knockouts (it’s lost only one group-stage game). Assuming the Americans finish first or second in Group A, they’ll play a quarterfinal against Canada, Guatemala, Cuba or a preliminary around winner on July 9 at FC Cincinnati’s TQL Stadium, the site of the 2021 World Cup qualifying win over Mexico.
Concacaf will determine the exact semifinal sites following the group stage. Both matches will be July 12. One will be staged at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego and the other at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The title game will then be played on July 16 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The U.S., with seven championships overall, is seeking to repeat for the second time (2005 and ’07). It’ll next play Mexico and then either Canada or Panama in the Nations League final four July 15-18 in Las Vegas.
This summer, the USMNT will be looking to claim its eighth Gold Cup trophy.
