Tyler Adams to Leave New York Red Bulls for RB Leipzig in January
On Sunday, New York Red Bulls announced its homegrown, talented midfielder Tyler Adams will leave for Bundesliga team RB Leipzig next month when the European transfer window reopens.
The 19-year-old American midfielder will reunite with former RBNY head coach Jesse Marsch, who is currently an assistant for the German club.
"We’re genuinely happy for Tyler and his family and we know that he is ready for the next step," said RBNY head coach Chris Armas. "Tyler is the gold standard for player development in this country and I think that our club and academy can feel very proud to have worked with him and influenced him along his path. We wish him the very best and look forward to watching him shine."
At only 16-years-old, Adams made his first team debut with the club in July 2015 during the International Champions Cup against Chelsea, scoring in the process. He made his MLS debut a year later 2016 at San Jose and started becoming a regular a year later.
By the end of his RBNY career, he made 74 total appearances and was an integral piece of the team that won this season's Supporters’ Shield before losing to Atlanta United in the Eastern conference final.
For the national team, Adams earned his first senior appearance last November against Portugal and has been involved in every camp in 2018. He scored his first international goal in a 2-0 win over Mexico on September 11.
