Juan Thornhill will have to wait at least another week to make his debut with the Cleveland Browns. The team’s starting safety has been downgraded from questionable to out for today’s season opener against the Bengals according to a report.

The team ran Thornhill through a brief pregame workout to determine whether he could play. The body language between him, Jim Schwartz and Andrew Berry did not look encouraging afterwards.

Thornhill popped up surprisingly on the injury report and was limited in practice on Wednesday, and did not participate in practice on Thursday.

The writing was on the wall after he missed the all important Friday practice. When asked about Thornhill’s injury after practice Friday, Kevin Stefanski told reporters that he was unclear of the exact day of when Thornhill sustained the calf injury. "It's been something that I guess has been bothering him," Stefanski said. "So, being careful with him and we'll see how it goes in the next 48 hours."

It will be the veteran Rodney McCloud as the next man up in his place. Rookie safety Ronnie Hickman may also make his NFL debut on defense by playing what could be significant snaps for the Browns.
