Arizona Cardinals vs. Cleveland Browns Prediction for NFL Week 9

NFL teams often like to interfere with their opponents' ability to prepare for games by not revealing who their starting quarterbacks will be early in the week and that's certainly the case with both the Browns and the Cardinals this week.

Taking the Browns first, hopes are rising that first-choice passer Deshaun Watson will be able to take the field against the Cardinals after missing last week's loss to the Seahawks. Watson started the previous game against Indianapolis but was clearly still affected by a shoulder injury and never returned to the game after taking a hard hit in the first quarter. PJ Walker completed that game and was able to secure a win over the Colts, but could not get the team over the line in Seattle when they had fought back well to lead having fallen into an early 14-point deficit. Walker would start this game if Watson is still not ready, and the Browns should be hopeful of winning this one at home whoever is taking the snaps.

The Cardinals will have a new quarterback this week but they're not saying who. The team traded former Brown Josh Dobbs, who has started every game for them this season, to the Minnesota Vikings this week, and had been expected to start rookie Clayton Tune in Cleveland, although QB1 Kyler Murray has returned to practice after a long-term knee injury and could yet be cleared to play this week, even though a return against the Falcons in Week 10 seems more likely.

The Browns have the edge on the Cardinals in almost every facet of the game, though, and should be confident of winning this one comfortably whichever combination of starting QBs we see on Sunday. The Browns are 4-3 despite having used backup QBs for more snaps than their starter this season, while the Cardinals are 1-7 and will be starting either a rookie in his first game or a player coming off a serious injury who hasn't played since last December. Our experts' favorite Cardinals vs. Browns prediction is for the Browns to cover the spread.

Cardinals vs. Browns Player Prop Picks & Best Bets Including Amari Cooper and Pierre Strong

As you would expect given the uncertainty surrounding the quarterbacks on both teams for this game, player props are difficult to assess confidently and it's also tough for oddsmakers to provide lines without that important information, However, odds for players to score touchdowns in the game are available at Bet365 Sportsbook and our favorite Browns vs. Cardinals prop bets are for Cleveland's Amari Cooper and Pierre Strong to reach the end zone.

While the Cardinals' offensive capabilities would be boosted if Murray is able to suit up, they could really struggle if rookie Tune is up against the fearsome Browns defense, so we prefer to focus on two Browns players who could score whether it's Watson or Walker at QB.

Cooper has been the focus of the Browns offense whoever has been at QB this season, to the extent that Walker missed opportunities to make key plays to other receivers in Seattle as he was laser-focused on targeting Cooper. The former Dallas Cowboy leads the team in receiving yards with 478 this season, He has only one touchdown so far, but should find the Cardinals defense more welcoming than many he has faced this year.

Cooper has anytime TD odds of +175 at Bet365 but the rewards on our other Cardinals vs Browns player prop bet are even better as Pierre Strong is available at +300. The Browns shared their carries between Kareem Hunt, Jerome Ford and Strong last week and that is likely to be the case again. Strong continues to make a good impression when he gets chances and last week's return of 41 rushing yards on 10 carries, plus a 41-yard reception should keep him in line for more work against Arizona.

Kenyan Drake: Browns Add RB

The Browns' only major transaction on deadline day was to trade wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones to the Detroit Lions in exchange for a future sixth-round pick. That move should lead to more snaps on Sunday for Marquise Goodwin, David Bell and in particular rookie Cedric Tillman.

The team also added depth at running back by signing veteran Kenyan Drake to their practice squad. Drake was drafted out of Alabama by the Miami Dolphins and has played in 103 NFL games with 44 starts with 868 carries for 3,866 yards and 33 touchdowns, plus 218 receptions for 1,655 yards and eight touchdowns. He appeared in two games for the Ravens this season with two receptions for 31 yards.
