There is a misconception that snow affects totals in the NFL, but wind plays a much bigger role, and I think there is a bit of an overreaction in the betting line today.
The Steelers will need to rely on their defense if they want to pull off an upset today, but TJ Watt not being on the field will greatly impact this unit. Watt hasn’t missed time this season, but in the seven games he missed during the 2022-23 season, Pittsburgh allowed 25.3 PPG, and Buffalo beat them 38-3 when Watt didn’t play. In the 10 other games when the Wisconsin product was on the field, the Steelers allowed just 16.9 PPG. There are very few non-quarterbacks in the NFL that are this important to their team’s game plan.
Without Watt consistently putting pressure on Bills QB Josh Allen, I anticipate that Buffalo will pick apart the Steelers secondary. The Steelers haven’t faced a legit QB since their loss to the Jaguars in October, as they’ve faced Will Levis, Jordan Love, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Joe Browning (twice), Kyler Murray, Bailey Zappe, Gardner Minshew, Geno Smith and Tyler Huntley. I’m not sure about you, but I wouldn’t compare any of these QBs to Josh Allen, and I expect a big day for Buffalo’s QB.
