What Adding Trent Brown Would Mean for Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals' Offense
CINCINNATI — Trent Brown is in Cincinnati and will visit the Bengals on Tuesday. There's mutual interest on both sides.
The Bengals are hoping to add a proven offensive tackle following Jonah Williams' departure in free agency.
Brown is a big, strong lineman that has played both tackle spots during his nine-year career. He's dealt with some injury issues, but he's a quality pass protector when healthy and a solid run blocker. The Bengals are a pass-first offense.
Adding Orlando Brown Jr. was big last offseason. If they can add another Brown, it would give Joe Burrow two bookend tackles that have won Super Bowls.
Cincinnati would also have two of the biggest players in the NFL in the same offensive line room. (Orlando) Brown Jr. is 6-8, 344 pounds. (Trent) Brown is also 6-8. Some sites have him listed at 359 pounds, while others have him at 370 pounds. Regardless, the Bengals would have the biggest offensive tackle tandem in the NFL.
Brown was projected to sign a two-year, $15 million contract at the start of free agency according to Brad Spielberger of Pro Football Focus. If the Bengals can lock up the veteran for two seasons, it would open up their options in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Of course, they could still take an offensive tackle in the first or second round, but they wouldn't be forced to go against their draft board if a defensive tackle, tight end, cornerback, wide receiver or any other position of need is the best player available at No. 18.
Brown isn't a perfect player, but he's a more proven option than Mekhi Becton and has faced all of the top pass rushers in the NFL, including TJ Watt and Myles Garrett.
Adding Brown would give this Bengals' offense a huge boost, especially after adding Zack Moss and Mike Gesicki in the first week of free agency.
