Patrick Mahomes Wants to Own an NFL Team

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes seems to have a hand in every sport there is.

The two-time Super Bowl champion’s sports investment portfolio already includes the RoyalsSporting Kansas City, a Miami-based pickleball team, the NWSL’s Current, and—as of Tuesday—Alpine F1 Team.

However, Mahomes is looking ahead to his post-football days and thinking even bigger—toward and about the potential ownership of an NFL team.

“Eventually, when I’m done playing,” Mahomes said Wednesday of potentially owning a team. “I think (former Patriots and Buccaneers quarterback) Tom (Brady) is trying to do it right now, but that’s definitely where you want to get to. I love this sport and want to give back in any way possible. When I’m done playing, obviously I’ll be a Chiefs fan, but at the same time I want to have that competitive edge I’ve always had my entire life.”

Brady is attempting to take stock in the Raiders, although the process has reportedly been met with complications.

Mahomes told reporters he understood the exclusivity of NFL ownership, but was undeterred from keeping his eyes and ears peeled for openings.

“I’m always looking around,” he said. “I can’t do it in the NFL while I’m playing, so I’m always looking around at other sports. It’s hard to get in all sports, NBA and all that different type of stuff, but I’m always keeping my ears open. If they give me the opportunity, I’m going to jump at it.”
