Saints QB Drew Brees on Playing vs. Cardinals: 'That's the Plan'

Saints quarterback Drew Brees has his eyes set on returning to the field when the team plays the Cardinals on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters following Wednesday's practice, Brees gave a simple answer on whether he was expecting to be under center for Week 8's matchup.

"That's the plan," Brees said. "We'll see."

Brees has missed five starts since exiting New Orleans' Week 2 game against the Rams in the first quarter. The 40-year-old signal-caller underwent surgery on his throwing thumb to correct a ligament issue in Los Angeles in September.

In the interim, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has led the Saints to five straight wins, completing 67.7% of his passes for 1,370 yards with nine touchdowns.

The timeline for Brees to return was six to eight weeks after the surgery.

Coach Sean Payton told reporters that Brees may be a game-time decision on Sunday.

Kickoff between the Saints and Cardinals is set for 1 p.m. ET.
