Stephen Curry, Under Armour Try to Reach New Heights With Curry 6

Stephen Curry's latest Under Armour signature sneaker, the Curry 6 pays homage to Oakland's Fox Theater with first colorway.

Under Armour and Stephen Curry unveiled their latest collaboration, The Curry 6.

Curry’s signature line with Under Armour is well documented and the two-time MVP has seen the high and lows when it comes to his sneakers. While he ranked fourth in sneaker sales in 2017 according to Forbes, his sneakers haven’t always fared well when it came to critics on social media. The brand has dialed back since the Curry 5 release—opting to produce lower profile models that are really popular in basketball right now.

The first Curry 6 release honors the Fox Theater, one of Oakland’s most iconic landmarks. The “Fox Theater” colorway features a neon green outsole, while orange can be found on the midsole and lacing system framed against an all-black upper, symbolic of the theatre’s marquee lit up at night.

The Warriors will be moving into a brand new arena next year in San Francisco and Curry saw a lot of similarities between the rise, fall and rejuvenation of the theatre with the Golden State Warriors and his career.

In 2009, the Fox Theater reopened after battling struggles throughout its 80 year history and now it is a multi-functional space that includes a restaurant, houses the Oakland School for the Arts and serves as a live concert venue. That same year the Warriors received a new life after drafting Curry with the No. 7 pick in the draft.

The sneaker also features Under Armour’s full length HOVR cushioning system.

“The Curry 6 gives me the ultimate confidence that no matter what move I try, change of direction, change of speed, the amount of wear and tear I put on my body over the course of 48 minutes, that is going to ride with me the whole way, ” said Curry in a release.

The Curry 6 “Fox Theater” releases worldwide for $130 on January 4, 2019.
