Report: Nationals Sign Brian Dozier to One-Year Deal

Second baseman Brian Dozier has agreed to a one-year, $9 million deal with the Nationals on Thursday, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Dozier is expected to replace Wilmer Difo and Daniel Murphy for Washington's starting spot.

The seven-year veteran spent the first six years of his career in Minnesota before being traded to the Dodgers at the 2018 trade deadline. Dozier hit just .182 in 143 at-bats with Los Angeles and finished with a career-low .215 batting average in 2018.

Dozier played in the 2015 All-Star game while with Minnesota and finished in the top 15 of the American League MVP voting in both 2016 and 2017. He is a career .246 hitter with 172 homers since 2012.

Washington finished second in the NL East in 2018 at 82–80 but missed the playoffs for the second time in the last four seasons.
