Alabama Safety Sets Summer Recruiting Visits — UW is On the List
Anquon Fegans, advertised as the No. 1 high school safety in the country, has decided to share a little of himself with Montlake, at least for a weekend.
On Thursday, the 6-foot-2, 183-pound defensive back from the class of 2025 revealed he will take official visits to Clemson on June 7, Georgia on June 14 and the University of Washington on June 21, according to 247Sports.
Curiously, Fegans is a 5-star player who hails from Alabaster, Alabama, which is located about 55 miles east of the Alabama Crimson Tide and former Husky coach Kalen DeBoer in Tuscaloosa.
Fegans was once committed to USC, where his brother Tre'Quon is a sophomore cornerback, but he re-opened his recruitment last fall and is still dealing with multiple schools among his 31 scholarship offers.
For those wondering how the Huskies got immersed in the pursuit of this top-level prospect on the other side of the country, not normally a UW recruiting footprint, Jedd Fisch and his then-Arizona staff made a previous run at Fegans in November.
The safety even reposted a slick video made for him by the Tucson school, so he's well acquainted with the new Husky coach.
No doubt Fegans might be intrigued by the UW defensive staff, which has a heavy NFL influence to it with Steve Belichick serving as defensive coordinator and Vinnie Sunseri in place as the safeties coach.
Sunseri played safety at Alabama in 2011-13 before turning to an NFL career, going as a fifth-round pick and spending three seasons with the New Orleans Saints and San Francisco 49ers.
Fegans, who goes by the nickname "Newboy," clearly can play. For Thompson High School, he shared in a pair of 7A state championships and a state runner-up finish this past December.
He comes off a season in which he finished with 59 tackles and 7 interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown.
In his three-year Thompson career, Fegans has 176 tackles and 18 interceptions, including 4 for scores, 3 of which came when he was just a sophomore, so he's highly capable of jumping pass routes.
His USC de-commitment was big recruiting news when it happened. He had been pledged to the Trojans and Lincoln Riley for four months.
Fegans told ESPN how he felt he rushed into the decision and he and his family later agreed he should step back and take another look.
The safety also has been considering Alabama and Auburn in his home state, plus Florida, Florida State, Mississippi and Tennessee.
