While Clay Helton spent much of the 2019 season on the hot seat, USC’s new Athletic Director Mike Bohn announced that he will keep Helton as the Trojans’ head football coach. After a rough 3-3 start, USC won five of its last six games to finish the regular season at 8-4 and nationally ranked. Helton hold a 40-21 record with the Trojans, but is just 13-11 in the last two seasons. It would have cost USC reportedly around $20 million to buyout Helton’s contract. While Helton is beloved and respected by the players, the Trojans’ recent recruiting class raises questions on whether he can steer the program back to its championship pedigree. As of now, the Trojans recruiting class sits at 67th in the latest 247 rankings.
