USC Football: Elite 2025 Defensive Tackle Recruit Has His Eyes on USC

One of the top Juniors in the country just dropped his top school list, and USC made the cut.

Greene Country (Greensboro, GA) 2025 defensive tackle Kevin Wynn is a force in the defensive interior. The 6-foot-2, 320-pound beast has offers from all across the country but took to X/Twitter today to narrow down which programs he'll focus his recruitment.

USC made the list, along with Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Florida, Tennessee, NC State, Michigan, and South Carolina. So what makes this big news for USC?

After a sub-par defensive performance in 2023, USC is seemingly backed into a corner from a results standpoint. Lincoln Riley has proven his programs can score points, but his program's defensive performances (in Norman with Oklahoma, as well as at USC) have left something to be desired. He left virtually no stone unturned in his overhauling of the defensive coaching staff and brought in a handful of blue-chip prospects along the defensive line in the 2024 cycle.

So Riley and USC defensive line coach Eric Henderson are on the right track, but being able to pull these big bodies like Kevin Wynn out of the Peach State (just like they did with top-100 recruit Kameryn Fountain) keeps the flow of talent fresh.

At the next level, Wynn will likely serve a similar role as current USC defensive lineman Bear Alexander, the anchor at the 1-technique. The problem with USC has been they are missing the depth that programs like Michigan, Alabama, Georgia, and Washington have. Wynn could end up being a great player and meaningful contributor quickly, but the point of having a steady flow of blue-chip prospects like Wynn is to mitigate the hit you take as a program when one recruit turns out to not be all that special.

From a big-picture perspective, his interest in USC is a baby step, but it shows USC fans that the Trojans are putting their money where their mouth is. Riley and the defensive coordinator aren't just paying lip service when they say things like "We want to get bigger up front".

Wynn, on paper, has all the tools a recruit needs to be able to develop at the next level. Check out his highlight tape here. Not only does he consistently demand a double-team, but he also displays the ability to shed blocks and make big plays in the backfield. Not to mention his footwork for somebody 300-plus pounds at that age is extremely impressive.

It will be a tall task to keep Wynn out of the clutches of the other schools in his consideration set.
