USC Football: Amon-Ra St. Brown Finally Named to 2023 Pro Bowl

Another former Trojan makes the Pro Bowl.

Former USC Trojan Amon-Ra St. Brown has finally been named to the 2023-2024 Pro Bowl, the Detroit Lions announced on X.

St. Brown was one of the biggest Pro Bowl snubs this year, but has been named to the Pro Bowl as a replacement for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, who will not be able to play in the Pro Bowl due to injury.

The Detroit Lions receiver had a career year in 2023, putting up 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns. St. Brown had nine 100-yard receiving games this season, the most in the NFL.

He was also the No. 1 receiver for the Lions this season, who were one of the top NFL teams. St. Brown was Jared Goff's go-to receiver throughout the last two seasons, and the Lions offense would not nearly have been as consistent without him.

Outside of his stats, what made the initial snub so ridiculous is that St. Brown made the Pro Bowl a season ago, despite not putting up nearly the numbers he did this season. In 2022, St. Brown went for 106 receptions for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns. The snub was also surprising because St. Brown was named a first-team All-Pro this season. He still had a strong season in 2022, but his 2023 stats were even more deserving of a Pro Bowl nod.

Of course, the competitiveness among wide receivers this season played a factor in the initial snub. The four original receivers to make the Pro Bowl this season were A.J. Brown, CeeDee Lamb, Mike Evans, and Puka Nacua, who were all also deserving. There are a lot of great receivers in the NFL this year, which makes picking just four for each conference tricky.

However, it does not excuse the absence of St. Brown, especially when St. Brown was worthy enough to make the All-Pro team.
