USC Women’s Basketball: JuJu Watkins Earns Another Freshman Of The Year Honor

The freshman keeps racking up the awards!

USC superstar freshman guard JuJu Watkins has received almost every award you could imagine in her first year in Southern California, from Freshman of the Week to Player of the Week in the Pac-12. She's a fantastic player who has transcended the USC women's basketball program and taken it to new heights.

Her game is not going unnoticed; in fact, she has everyone's attention, including the sports journalism site The Athletic.

Watkins has been named The Athletic's National Freshman of the Year.

It was the first time a USC women's basketball player had earned such an award, and no one deserves it more than Watkins. She was the best player for USC by a mile, and her stats back it up. In the 2023-2024 regular season, she put up 27.8 points per game on 41.6% shooting for the field, 7.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks.

On top of that, she's led the Trojans to the number five ranked team in the nation. According to DraftKings, USC has the 16th longest odds to win the National Championship at +7500.

This team will go as far as JuJu takes them. The journey starts this week in the Pac-12 tournament, where she will again look to carry the Lady Trojans.
