OSU Baseball: Are the Cowboys a Title Contender?

Can Oklahoma State bring it home this year?

After a long wait, college baseball is officially back on Friday. Following a rough ending to last year's season, the Cowboys are ready to come back strong in 2024. The Pokes return a haul of offensive talent, and while the pitching staff has been an issue as of late, Oklahoma State has the potential to make some noise this year.

TCU has been the talk of the conference over the offseason, and while the Frogs could (and probably will) make a deep run in the College World Series, I do not think that Oklahoma State will be far behind. They return two top-notch hitters in Nolan Schubart and Carson Benge, and when you stop and take a look at the rest of the lineup, it's difficult to find many weak spots.

Unfortunately, the pitching staff is still a bit of a concern. They lost some of their most experienced guys from a unit that already was not very productive last year. Still, the Cowboys added several pitchers in the portal over the offseason.

Perhaps we could see a new face emerge and enough of a spark to get this team over the hump. Regardless of which way the pendulum swings, the Pokes should still win plenty of games, but a quality bullpen could be the difference between a trip to the super regionals, or making a run for the title in Omaha.

Looking at what Oklahoma State can accomplish this season, there is no reason that fans should not be excited. A trip to Omaha is very much on the table for the Cowboys should they hit their stride and play complimentary baseball. With all the talent that is returning in Stillwater, anything is possible. OSU will open the season against Sam Houston State on Friday at 6:30 pm Central Time.
