College Football Analyst Joel Klatt Likes Ohio State's Recruiting Class Over Georgia's
After Early Signing Day on Wednesday, the Buckeyes walked away with a top 5 recruiting class. With four five-star recruits and 20-four-star players, Ohio State boasts the No. 4 recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, behind just Georgia, Alabama and Miami. The Texas Longhorns round out the top 5.
But not all agree with the No. 4 ranking for the Buckeyes, as former Colorado quarterback and current Fox Sports College Football Analyst Joel Klatt thinks he has a case for Ohio State having the best class after Early Signing Day.
"Ohio State... They were, really, in a lot of ways, one of the best classes if not the best class,” Klatt said. “I know that Georgia is going to have the numbers to rank them No. 1, but remember a lot of that has to do with volume. All of these rankings have to do with volume. So if you sign 26 players, that’s going to be a better overall score than if you score 21 players and a lot of that is just scholarship availability and what you’ve got in your program.
“Well, Georgia signed more players than Ohio State. Ohio State’s average player ranking is right there with Georgia, and they signed more 5-star players than anyone else in the country."
The Buckeyes did land the No. 1 overall recruit for 2024 in wideout Jeremiah Smith and added five-star receiver Mylan Graham and five-star quarterback Air Noland. On defense, the Bucks signed five-star EDGE Eddrick Houston and five-star cornerback Aaron Scott.
One significant difference between Ohio State and Georgia's recruiting classes is that the Buckeyes signed just 21 prospects. That's tied for the fewest of any of the teams in the top 10 national rankings.
