NEW: Michigan State lands highly sought-after 2024 defensive lineman from Chicago

The Spartans add to their 2024 recruiting class with a defensive lineman who had garnered over 30 scholarship offers from around the country...

Jonathan Smith and Michigan State football have added to their 2024 recruiting class just days ahead of the second signing period.

On Monday, the Spartans landed a commitment from three-star Chicago (Ill.) Simeon defensive lineman Mikeshun Beeler, who chose MSU among a "Final Five" which also included Oregon, Colorado, Georgia Tech and Indiana. Beeler's addition to Michigan State's class comes just two days ahead of the February signing period in the 2024 cycle.

A 6-foot-4, 280-pounder from "the Windy City", Beeler is considered the No. 1058 overall player, No. 115 defensive lineman and No. 25 player from the state of Illinois in the class of 2024 according to 247Sports' composite rankings. However, the Chicago-native's offer sheet indicates he's one of the more underrated recruits of the cycle. Beeler has garnered 33 total scholarship offers, with Texas A&M, Nebraska, Arizona State, Illinois and Purdue all showing interest in addition to his final five.

Michigan State defensive coordinator Joe Rossi was the Spartans' primary recruiter in the battle for Beeler, with defensive line coach Legi Suiaunoa assisting. Beeler is the third 2024 prospect that MSU has added to its 2024 class since the conclusion of the early signing period in December, joining three-star wide receiver Jaylan Brown and three-star kicker Martin Connington.

With the addition of Beeler, Michigan State is up to 22 total prospects in their 2024 recruiting class, 18 of which signed during the early period and nine of whom have early-enrolled and are already going through winter conditioning with the program. The class is ranked No. 42 in the country according to 247Sports team composite rankings. In addition to the three mentioned above, the Spartans hope to sign three-star linebacker Jadyn Walker during the February signing period. Walker has been committed to MSU since early September, but chose not to sign in December after a late push from USC to try and flip the Portage, Michigan native.
