Kirby Smart in South Georgia, visiting some big-time recruits.

Georgia football was busy on the recruiting trail on Wednesday as head coach Kirby Smart was in Coastal Georgia to check in on the local talent.

As the college football world is focused on the pillaging of talent from Alabama -  most recently with the news that safety Caleb Downs and offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor are entering the transfer portal - Kirby Smart and his staff are hitting the recruiting trail hard in the state of Georgia.

Putting his "Kirby-copter" to good use, Smart and tight ends coach Todd Hartley were in Coastal Georgia on Wednesday, stopping by some local schools to check out some big-time recruits. Smart's helicopter landed at Savannah Christian Preparatory School, home of 5-star 2025 defensive lineman Elijah Griffin. Georgia offered the 6-foot-5 285 defensive lineman way back in 2020 but he's played his recruitment close to the chest. Recently, however, the Bulldogs may have gained some traction in landing Griffin, the No. 1 defensive lineman in his class.

Kirby Smart visits Brunswick High School.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart visits Brunswick High School during a recruiting trip on January 17th, 2024.

Also at Savannah Christian is LaDamion Guyton, a class of 2027 prospect who has already picked up an offer from Georgia and a host of other SEC schools. The 6-foot-3 freshman edge rusher will be one of the hottest names in the country over the coming years.

After he visited Savannah Christian, Smart flew across town to visit Calvary Day, the former home of Georgia greats DeMarcus Dobbs and Nolan Smith. Calvary Day athlete Thomas Blackshear, one of the top wideouts in the state for the class of 2025, is currently a Georgia lean. Blackshear could play offense or defense in college and is one of the top playmakers in the state.

Later in the afternoon, Smart flew down the coast to Brunswick to check out and meet with the Brunswick High School coaches. Brunswick's head coach, Garrett Grady, was Stetson Bennett's offensive coordinator at Pierce County and offensive tackle Warren McClendon's position coach at Brunswick, so he and Smart have quite the relationship. Brunswick is home to Heze Kent, a 6-foot-5 tight end in the 2026 class who carries offers from almost half the schools in the SEC.
