Dawgs Senior Night Tonight Against Texas A&M

Now 15-13, UGA will take on 15-13 Texas A&M at home tonight.

Athens, GA – The Georgia Bulldogs return to the Steg tonight at 5 PM EST to play the Texas A&M Aggies for the Bulldogs’ senior night. The Aggies and the Bulldogs stand at 15-13 overall, but the Aggies are at 6-9 in the SEC, while the Dawgs are 5-10. The Aggies are currently riding a five-game losing streak and are favored by 1.5 points tonight.

After getting a win a week and a half ago against Vanderbilt to end a six-game losing streak, the Dawgs have lost two back-to-back, one against No. 14 Auburn and one against LSU. In the recent struggle against LSU, the Tigers led for 35 total minutes. The Dawgs grabbed a 1-point lead with just under six minutes left, and both teams exchanged baskets. However, LSU landed on top in a 67-66 decision.

Graduate student guard Noah Thomasson led the Dawgs again with 16 points, but as a team, the Dawgs only shot 37.3% from field goal range and 25.9% from behind the arc. Thomasson also leads the team as a whole with an average of 13.0 points per game (ppg). This comes after Thomasson has averaged 19.3 ppg over the Dawgs’ last four matchups. Senior guard Jabri Abdur-Rahim is second behind Thomasson in team stats with 12.3 ppg.

As a team, Georgia is averaging 75.8 ppg and shooting 73.6% from the line, 43.4% from field goal range, and 34.1% from behind the arc. Senior guard Justin Hill is (and has been) UGA’s leading distributor with 3.5 assists per game.

Over their past five losses, the Aggies have fallen to three ranked teams: No. 14 Alabama, No. 4 Tennessee, and most recently, No. 18 South Carolina. However, this season, TAMU has racked up four wins over ranked teams: Tennessee, Iowa State, Kentucky, and Florida. Junior guard Wade Taylor IV leads the team with 18.7 ppg. Taylor IV is also a top performer in the SEC, ranked No. 4 in scoring, No. 3 in steals (2.0 per game), No. 5 in three-pointers per game, and No. 9 in assists. Senior guard Tyrece Radford follows Taylor IV in ppg with 15.3. The Aggies are averaging 73.0 ppg and shooting 70.0% from the line, 39.3% from field goal range, and 26.7% from behind the arc.

Georgia is averaging 35.5 rebounds per game; this defensive effort is led by graduate student guard Russel Tchewa with 6.7 rebounds per game. Texas A&M is picking up 42.6 rebounds per game. Senior forward Andersson Garcia is not only leading the Aggies in rebounds but the league with 9.5 rebounds per game.

A win tonight would be huge for Georgia, not only for the Bulldog seniors on their senior night but also because the A&M meeting is the second to last home game for UGA. The win at home would be of great help for the Dawgs’ momentum to close out the season and make sure UGA stays above .500 for the entire regular season.
