Holy Cross vs. Boston College Prediction, CFB Picks & Odds: Saturday, 9/9

USATSI_21361270

Football season is underway, and we’re excited to give you our Holy Cross vs. Boston College prediction for Saturday’s clash at BC. These teams are in very different places at the moment, as Boston College has been disappointing for a while now, and Holy Cross is still on the upswing, coming off an undefeated regular season campaign in 2022. Last week, the BC Eagles lost a heartbreaker to Northern Illinois in overtime. This was obviously demoralizing for a team and its fans that expect much more out of them.

They’ll be tested again this week by a pesky Holy Cross team out of Worcester, MA, who’s going to have a chip on their shoulder in this one. The Crusaders were victorious last weekend in a beatdown over Merrimack, in which Holy Cross won 42-20. Boston College may not be at their best right now, but this will still be a great challenge for Cross. Odds at DraftKings Sportsbook won’t be out until gameday, but our experts their Holy Cross vs. Boston College prediction and best bets for Saturday’s contest.

Holy Cross Crusaders vs. Boston College Eagles Prediction for CFB This Week

The last time these two Massachusetts-based schools squared off was in 2018, which was Bob Chesney’s first year with Holy Cross. The Eagles were the much better team in all aspects of the game at that point, but things have now changed at Holy Cross. They’re now capable of competing with BC after their undefeated season last year.

Let’s look at some key players for Holy Cross. First, we have to talk about QB Matthew Sluka, who had a breakout season last year and was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award. He’s a very strong runner who racked up over 1,000 yards on the ground alone last season, with nearly 2,500 yards passing and 26 touchdowns through the air. Sluka also has plenty of talent around him with a veteran-heavy offense. WR Jalen Coker had a 912 yard season in 2022, and he went off last week against Merrimack. Also, junior RB Jordan Fuller has proven himself to be a star after finding the endzone 22 times last year and scoring a whopping five touchdowns last week.

Now let’s dive into the Boston College offense. QB Thomas Castellanos looks to redeem himself after a tough outing last weekend where he went 13 for 28 and only threw for 138 yards in the loss. He threw for two touchdowns, though, and rushed for 67 yards and a TD on the ground. In the backfield for Castellanos is senior Pat Garwo III, who ran the ball 10 times for just 43 yards last week. In the passing game, the Eagles spread the ball out generously among plenty of receivers, who they’ll look to get involved again in this one.

Now when it comes to defense, let's first look at Holy Cross. The Crusaders have multiple All-Americans on this side of the ball, and they can be very stingy. They had the best defense in their conference last year, and they’re returning the majority of their starters. As for the Boston College defense, the Eagles have a mix of veterans ranging from sixth-year super senior Vinny Depalma all the way down to freshman recruits who were highly rated in high school.

With all of this being said, Boston College generally plays much better talent than Holy Cross, so it can be hard to predict these types of matchups. We can predict that Boston College will do everything in their power to avoid their first ever loss to an FCS opponent. They should get the win here, but we predict that Holy Cross will at least make them sweat, and the Crusaders will cover the spread at DraftKings.

Holy Cross vs. Boston College Picks & CFB Best Bets for Saturday Including Holy Cross +14

Our Holy Cross vs. Boston College prediction is based on an estimate of what we believe the spread will be. As we stated above, we believe that Boston College can do enough to scrape out this win at home and get back on track in front of their home crowd. However, the spread may be too large for this experienced Holy Cross group, who will have their eyes set on the upset here.
